# How to Update Form DS-160 After Submitting Online

Learn how to edit your DS-160 responses after submitting your application electronically

## Changing the DS-160 After Booking an Appointment

Yes, you can change your DS-160 Form after submitting and booking an appointment, but you will have to pay the fee again and book a new appointment. This is because you will be submitting a new form (with a new bar code) rather than editing the existing one.

If you make a mistake or forget to add information to your form, don’t panic! Here are two options to update your DS-160 after submitting it online and booking an appointment.

###### Important:

For either method, if the original Form DS-160 was used to book your visa appointment, you must present confirmation pages for both the new and original DS-160 at your visa interview at a U.S. Embassy or consulate. Each submission generates a different barcode that consular officers will use to identify and retrieve your application during the interview stage.

### Option A: Retrieve Your Application and Re-Create

Retrieving your previous application and updating it is the most simple way to make changes to your DS-160. If you’re choosing this option, complete the following steps:

1. Log into the [Consular Electronic Application Center (CEAC) system](https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/) and select “Retrieve an Application” using your application number. If you can’t remember your application number, you can retrieve it by answering security questions at this [link](https://ceac.state.gov/GENNIV/Help/Content/Retrieve%20an%20Application%20ID.htm).
2. Select “ **Create a New Application**.” Most of the form should auto-populate with your previous information and the responses you completed.
3. Edit and update any questions as needed, then submit. This will create a new confirmation page. Be sure to save this new confirmation page, as you’ll need to bring it with you to the [visa interview](https://www.boundless.com/immigration-resources/us-visa-interviews-explained) at a later stage in the process.

### Option B: Amend from a DAT File

If you saved the DAT file from your original Form DS-160 to a hard drive or disk, you can access and edit the application at any time:

1. On the “Getting Started” page, select “Upload a Previously Saved Application.”
2. Make any necessary changes, then save and submit your **new application**. This will create a new confirmation page.
